Meet our CEO, Erwan Gelebart.

February 27, 2023

We are more than just a financial technology company. We are a people-obsessed organisation, which puts care for its customers at the heart of everything we do. Meet the person making this happen: our CEO, Erwan Gelebart.

Erwan joined Ezra with our shared mission in mind: to improve financial inclusion throughout  financially underserved and excluded markets.

Growing up in Africa, Erwan experienced first-hand the difficulties that many face in gaining access to essential financial services. After graduating with a Masters in Management from SKEMA Business School and an MBA from the Asian Institute of Technology, he began his career in strategic consulting.

In 2008, he started working in digital financial services as a strategic consultant. Since then, he has built a reputation for launching, leading, scaling and supporting businesses across Africa and Southeast Asia. He oversaw the launch of one of Africa’s first mobile money payment companies and went on to lead mobile money business units and subsidiaries, as well as several successful digital lending products. Previous appointments include Orange Money, JazzCash and Grameenphone.

Erwan now lives in Dubai with his wife and three children.

Q: Why did you decide to join Ezra?

A: At Ezra, we work hard to financially empower people who have historically been denied access to basic financial services, to uplift their lives and businesses. I am delighted to be part of a team who are committed to improving financial inclusion across emerging markets.

Q: What do you think sets Ezra apart as a credit solutions provider?

A: We take pride in our product, but most importantly we take pride in the expertise and contributions of our team. I look forward to building upon Ezra’s global reputation for excellence together.

Q: You have lived and worked all over the world, but are now based in Dubai - what’s your favourite thing about living here?

Dubai is as international as it gets! Since 2014 we’ve lived in six different countries, but here our kids are learning and growing in such a multicultural environment at their school - it’s amazing, and they love it. They’re reaching an age where stability is becoming important, so we are planning to make Dubai our base for a little while.

Q: As CEO of Ezra, your work takes you across the world - but what does your ideal holiday look like?

I hate planning when it comes to holidays, so I only secure the minimum logistics: flights and a hotel for the first few days. Once we are there, we decide everyday what we want to do, and where to go next…no pressure.

Q: When you’re not working, how do you like to unwind?

I love spending time with my kids and watching them enjoy their weekend activities - especially if it comes with a cup of coffee.
